~UNM Foundation inaugurates a 317-bed transitional healthcare facility and lays the foundation stone for an 800-bed hospital in Vyara under a Gujarat government PPP project.
Vyara, Tapi, Gujarat, Sep 22 (VNI): Torrent Group’s UNM Foundation on Tuesday inaugurated a redeveloped 317-bed transitional facility at General Hospital, Vyara, and laid the foundation stone for a new 800-bed hospital building under the UNM Medical College & General Hospital project being developed through a public-private partnership with the Government of Gujarat.
The first-stage development of the UNM Medical College and General Hospital project was inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel, who also performed the Bhoomi Poojan for the new 800-bed hospital building. The new facility will replace the existing 156-bed hospital. Nareshbhai Maganbhai Patel, Minister for Tribal Development, and Dr Jayram Gamit, Minister of State for Coordination of Voluntary Organisations, Government of Gujarat, were also present on the occasion.
The 317-bed redeveloped transitional facility has been established within the existing Vyara General Hospital campus. Clinical services and patients from the existing hospital will be safely shifted to the transitional facility, ensuring uninterrupted treatment and patient care while construction of the new 800-bed hospital is undertaken.
The redeveloped facility is planned to transform the Vyara General Hospital campus into an advanced healthcare centre serving as a major medical hub for Tapi district, which shares its border with Maharashtra. In the subsequent phase, a 150-seat MBBS medical college and hostel will also be developed, providing young people from nearby rural areas an opportunity to pursue medical education closer to their homes.
The overall project has an estimated cost of approximately Rs 910 crore, which will be funded by the UNM Foundation. By bringing specialised healthcare services and medical education to Vyara, the district headquarters of Tapi, the project is expected to reduce the need for patients to travel nearly 75 kilometres to Surat for treatment and benefit close to eight lakh people, particularly tribal communities in South Gujarat and neighbouring Maharashtra.
