Ahmedabad, Nov 04, Over the four-day Diwali festival period, from October 31 to November 3, a total of 20,164 emergencies were reported,
According to 108 Emergency Response Service sources, 108-EMS Diwali, New Year and Bhai Dhooj Operation Insight, averaging 5,041 emergencies per day—a 11.92% increase compared to the normal daily average of 4,504. The highest number of emergencies occurred on New Year’s Day with 5,259 cases, followed by November 1 with 5,031, Bhai Dhooj (November 3) with 4,985, and Diwali day (October 31) with 4,889, marking increases of 16.76%, 11.70%, 10.68%, and 8.55% respectively.
Spike by Emergency Type: Vehicular Trauma (Road Accidents): This category saw the largest spike, with an average of 906 road accident cases per day, a significant 88.41% increase from the normal average of 481. The peak in road accidents was observed on New Year’s Day with 1,087 cases, followed by Diwali Day (921), November 1 (827), and Bhai Dhooj (796).
Districts with Notable Spikes in Road Accidents: Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhotaudepur, Narmada, Gir Somnath, Navsari, Panchmahal, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Amreli, Sabarkantha, and Kheda.
Non-Vehicular Trauma (Burns and Physical Assault): Burns: A total of 113 burn-related emergencies were reported over the four days, averaging 28 cases per day, compared to the usual average of 4 cases per day. The highest was on November 1 with 40 cases, followed by Diwali Day (38), New Year’s Day (24), and Bhai Dhooj (11).
Districts with Highest Burn-Related Cases: Ahmedabad (33), Surat (29), Rajkot (8), and Bharuch (7).
Physical Assault: Physical assault cases totaled 1,197 over the four days, averaging 299 cases per day—an increase of 107.81% over the normal daily average of 144. The peak day was November 1 with 381 cases, followed by Diwali Day (323), New Year’s Day (284), and Bhai Dhooj (209), reflecting increases of 164.58%, 124.31%, 97.22%, and 45.14%, respectively.
Districts with Highest Increases in Physical Assault: Dahod, Panchmahal, Banaskantha, Ahmedabad, and Surat.
