~A prayer meeting in memory of Late Joravarsinh Jadav was held at Gujarat University
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Nov 10, A prayer meeting was held today at Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, in remembrance of the renowned writer, researcher, and Padma Shri awardee Late Joravarsinh Jadav, who created legacy on the vibrant folk arts, folk life, and rich cultural heritage of Gujarat for future generations through over 110 books. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel attended the prayer meeting and offered heartfelt floral tributes to the revered departed soul.
Late Joravarsinh Jadav, besides being a writer and researcher, was also a devoted protector of the folk arts and artists who kept the cultural heartbeat of Gujarat alive. His unique journey of promoting and preserving folk art, which began from the small village of Akru, remains a remarkable chapter in Gujarat’s cultural history. He was honored with the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India in 2019. He had also served as the Vice Chairman of the Sangeet Natak Akademi. In addition, he founded the Gujarati Folk Museum “Virasat,” which was inaugurated by Chief Minister.
A large number of folk artists, litterateurs, citizens, and admirers attended the prayer meeting and paid their heartfelt tributes.
It is noteworthy that Padmashree Zoravarsingh Jadav, a renowned folk writer, folk artist, and active member of several organizations, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, at his residence in Professor Colony, Ahmedabad, due to illness. He was 85 years old.
He was awarded the Padmashree Award by the Government of India in 2019. He was also honored with the Meghani Suvarna Chandrak (1975), the Gujarat Sahitya Akademi Award, the Gujarat Government Award, the NCERT First Prize, and the Jawarchand Meghani Award (2012). He has written over 100 books and traveled to many countries.
Zoravarsingh Jadav was born on January 10, 1940, in Akrund village, Dhandhuka taluka. From an early age, Zorawar Singh had a deep exposure to folk literature and folk arts.
