Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Jan 20, On a program marking Diu – The Union Territory as a fully covered area of Union Territory under Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav distributed Passbooks to girl child.
Girl child in our country is having paramount importance. Through the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ initiative and the ‘Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana’, financial empowerment has been ensured for higher education, careers, and marriage of girls. Today Postmaster General, Saurashtra and Kutch Region (Gujarat) Shri Yadav as a Chief Guest expressed these views on a program marking Diu as a fully covered area of Union Territory under Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. During the event, he distributed passbooks and gifts to girl child, stating that when girls become self-reliant, the vision of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ will also be realized. Under the Campaign, to raise the awareness of financial inclusion amongst the General Public, Accounts of Various schemes such as the Post Office Savings Bank, Mahila Samman Savings Certificate, Postal Life Insurance and India Post Payments Banks were also opened.
Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav said that empowering girls strengthens not only the families and societies but also the nation. The Sukanya Samriddhi Account, which can be opened with just ₹250 for girls under 10 years of age, is not only a means of investment but also directly linked to the prosperous future of girls. He praised the efforts of staff of Department of Posts for their door-to-door campaign to connect girls with this scheme, which he commended as praiseworthy.
Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav further stated that India Post is not only just delivering the letters but also connecting people to government welfare schemes and their benefits. India Post plays a crucial role in financial empowerment, Digital India, and Antyodaya. The Post Offices are now becoming a multi-purpose units which provide facilities such as Saving Accounts, Insurance, Aadhaar, Passports, Common Service Centres, India Post Payments Bank, Sale of Ganga Jal and QR based digital payments. With the India Post Payments Bank, people now have access to digital banking and various services from the comfort of their homes. From “Dakia Daka Laya” to “Dakia Bank Laya”, India Post is continuously evolving to serve the nation.
Dr. Vivek Kumar, Additional District Magistrate of Diu, praised the initiative of Department of Posts of opening Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts for all the eligible girls in the Diu and made the area fully covered Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. This will make the girls of Diu economically and socially stronger.
Chavda, Superintendent of Post Offices, Junagadh Division, informed that more than 2100 Sukanya Samriddhi accounts have been opened for girls under the age of 10 in the Diu. The current interest rate for the scheme is 8.2%, and a maximum of ₹1.5 lakh can be deposited in a financial year.
The event was attended by several dignitaries named Mrs. Vaishali Kebaria, Child Development Project Officer of Diu district, District Education Officer Mrs. Maitrey Bhatt, Principal Government Higher Secondary School (English Medium) Ghoghla Shri Ramji N Vaja, Assistant Director of Posts, Shri J.K. Hingorani, Sub Divisional Inspector, Shri Sompal Singh, Postmaster of Diu Post Office, Shri Mayur Gohil, along with other officials, public representatives, parents, and girls. The program was anchored by Miss Partibha Smart, welcome address by Assistant Director Shri J.K. Hingorani and the vote of thanks by Superintendent of Posts, Shri Arjun Chavda.
