Ahmedabad, Aug 28, The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) Extends its heartfelt congratulations to Jay Shah on his remarkable achievement of being elected as the youngest President of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

With this prestigious appointment, Shri Jay Shah, who has diligently served as Honorary Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) since October 2019 and as Chair of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) since January 2021, will etch his name into the annals of cricket history as the youngest individual to hold this esteemed office. His tenure as ICC president will commence on December 1, 2024.
In a historic first, Shri Shah becomes the inaugural representative from Gujarat to ascend to such a prominent position in the cricketing world.
Dhanraj Nathwani, President of the Gujarat Cricket Association, eloquently expressed the pride of the GCA in Shah’s ascent. “It is with immense pride that we acknowledge Shri Jay Shah’s remarkable journey from his role as Hon. Joint Secretary of GCA to reach the zenith of the ICC. His relentless efforts in the development of cricket, notably the creation of the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium- the largest cricket stadium globally- in Ahmedabad, and his contributions to the growth of cricket within our state, are commendable.”
Shri Nathwani conveyed his unwavering confidence in Shah’s leadership, asserting that his visionary guidance will propel cricket’s reach and popularity on a global scale. “Under Shri Jay Shah’s stewardship, we anticipate significant advancements in the sport’s global prominence and inclusivity. His visionary approach will undoubtedly foster greater engagement and participation from a diverse range of nations,” he remarked.
Shri Jay Shah’s efforts have been instrumental in championing pay parity for international women cricketers and the launch of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) had marked a new era of opportunity and visibility for women cricketers, elevating the sport to unprecedented heights. Additionally, Shri Shah has played a crucial role in enhancing the financial well-being of both women and men cricketers at the domestic level, leading to a notable increase in match fees that reflects the growing respect and value of their contributions to the game. His vision also encompassed the establishment of the New National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, a cornerstone for nurturing and developing future cricketing talent in India.
