Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Apr 04. Gujarat Technological University (GTU) Conducts 6-Day Faculty Development Programme On Intellectual Property Rights.
GTU reaffirmed its commitment to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) education with the successful conclusion of a six-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on IPR from Organized under the DPIIT-SPRIHA IPR Chair at GTU-IPFC, in collaboration with the R&D Cell, the program aimed to equip faculty members with advanced knowledge in IPR. The initiative was supported by GUJCOST and the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of Gujarat.
The Faculty Development Program brought together 32 faculty members from 21 colleges across Gujarat, including participants deputed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Gujarat, as well as IP and Incubation Officers from GUJCOST. Through 14 expert-led sessions, the program covered key topics such as Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights, Industrial Design, Geographical Indications (GI), and Plant Varieties.
Industry experts played a vital role in bridging academic knowledge with practical applications. Representatives from Zydus Lifesciences IP Cell, Y. J. Trivedi & Co., H.K. Acharya & Co., Soni & Soni, PAtectual IP Law Services LLP, KK Techno legal, and Triverse Law provided valuable insights into IP filings and IPR enforcement.
A key highlight of the FDP was an in-depth session on Geographical Indications (GI) conducted by Mr Prashanth Kumar S. Bhairappanavar, Assistant Registrar of Trade Marks, GI & Copyright, Ahmedabad. His presentation detailed the legal framework and registration process for GI in India, enhancing participants’ understanding of its role in regional economic development.
Additionally, faculty members from GTU PG Schools shared their expertise on IP generation, GTU’s IP ecosystem, and commercialization strategies. The program also featured interactive discussions, hands-on activities, and visits to GTU Ventures’ Atal Incubation Centre, Design Innovation Centre, and Idea Lab, further enriching the learning experience.
