Ahmedabad, Aug 27, Gujarat University (GU) along with India Foundation organized a three-day programme on ‘Cosmology in the Traditions of Dharma and Dhamma from 23 to 25 August, 2024.
According to a press release issued by VC GU today The conference at Gujarat University highlighted the profound insights of Indian Sanatan literature on the origins and structure of the universe.
Dr. Oscar Puyol, Director of the Cervantes Institute of Delhi, emphasized that Indian texts offer a clearer account of cosmology compared to other ancient global texts.
Dr. Vedika Hardayal from the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Mauritius noted the Sanatan concept of fourteen worlds, paralleling similar ideas in Vedic and Buddhist literature.
Anirvan Bandyopadhyay, a senior scientist from Japan, challenged the term “mythology” for ancient literature, arguing for a connection between Vedic cosmology and modern scientific principles. The conference also featured discussions from notable figures like Prof. Jagbir Singh, Jata Shankar, Luvsandors Tsitsi, Geo Lyong Lee, and Vassana Dwangmalase, who explored the intersection of cosmology. Ami Upadhyay and Bhagyesh Jha added to the discourse, while the final session was chaired by Vice Chancellor Rama Shankar Dubey, featuring scholars such as Sayada Vimala, Professor Kusum Jain, Hwang Soonil, and Mahinde Herath. The conference, “Science of the Universe in the Traditions of Dharma-Dhamma,” brought together over 300 scholars from 18 countries, emphasizing the ongoing relevance of Vedic literature in understanding natural and cosmic principles.
