Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Sep 17, India Foundation, in collaboration with Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, is organising the 9th International Dharma-Dhamma Conference from 18–20 September 2025.
Assistant Registrar Dr. Bhavin Trivedi said today, The theme of this year’s conference is “Karma, Reincarnation, Transmigration, and the Avatar Doctrine.” The conference will bring together religious, political, and intellectual leaders from Dharma-Dhamma traditions to reflect upon building a philosophical framework for the emerging new world order.
The Inaugural Session on 18 September 2025 will be graced by several distinguished speakers including Shri Acharya Devvrat, Hon’ble Governor of Gujarat; Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Government of India; H.E. Mahendra Gondeea, OSK, Minister of Arts and Culture, Mauritius; H.E. Tshering, Minister of Home Affairs, Royal Government of Bhutan; Shri Rushikesh Patel, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education, Higher and Technical Education, Law and Justice, Government of Gujarat; Swami Govinda Dev Giri Maharaj, Treasurer, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust; Prof. Dr. Ami Upadhyay, Vice Chancellor, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University; and Dr. Ram Madhav, President, India Foundation.
This year’s conference will see participation from delegates representing sixteen countries — Armenia, Bhutan, Cambodia, Canada, France, Georgia, India, Japan, Mauritius, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. Over the course of three days, participants will attend plenary sessions featuring eminent spiritual leaders, policymakers, and thinkers, and engage in more than 100 paper presentations where scholars from India and abroad will present their research on the conference theme and sub-themes. Beyond the academic deliberations, the conference will also serve as a window into the cultural heritage of Gujarat. Delegates will experience the state’s rich traditions through its renowned cuisine and a vibrant Garba evening on the second day of the conference.
The 9th International Dharma-Dhamma Conference 2025 is designed to provide a vibrant platform for dialogue and intellectual exchange, focusing on the philosophical, cultural, and social dimensions of Dharma and Dhamma. By exploring timeless concepts such as karma and reincarnation, the conference seeks to foster collaboration between Hindu and Buddhist traditions. An initiative of India Foundation, the Dharma-Dhamma Conference has emerged as a significant annual forum for advancing cross-civilisational dialogue. Its core objective is to highlight the essential identity between the Dharma and Dhamma viewpoints, which remain as relevant today as they were in antiquity. Rooted in the enduring continuum of Hindu and Buddhist civilizations, the conference aspires to strengthen cultural and spiritual interconnectedness, facilitate the cross-pollination of ideas, and promote harmony in an increasingly interconnected world.
