~ISKCON Hare Krishna Mandir, Bhadaj, Ahmedabad, will celebrate Dussehra on October 20 with a golden chariot procession, Rama Taraka Yagna and the burning of towering effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnath.
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Oct 15 (VNI): ISKCON Hare Krishna Mandir, Bhadaj, Ahmedabad, will celebrate Dussehra on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, with a series of special religious and cultural programmes, including the burning of a 60-foot-tall effigy of the ten-headed demon king Ravana, symbolising the victory of good over evil.
According to Jaganmohan Krishna Das, President of ISKCON Hare Krishna Mandir, Bhadaj, a special Ram Darbar adorned with exquisite floral decorations will be set up inside the temple for devotees. The celebrations will begin with the Swarna Rathotsav, a special golden chariot procession of the temple deities, at 6:00 pm. A special Rama Taraka Yagna will also be performed for the pleasure of the presiding deities.
The highlight of the evening will be the burning of towering effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnath at 8:00 pm, accompanied by fireworks. The effigies are being prepared by specially skilled artisans from Uttar Pradesh, with preparations underway for the past month. Special bhajans and kirtans glorifying Lord Sita Ram will be performed throughout the day.
ISKCON Hare Krishna Mandir at Bhadaj is not only a centre of worship but also an active institution contributing to society through spirituality, religion, education, culture and philanthropy. The temple celebrates major festivals throughout the year, including Sri Krishna Janmashtami, Dussehra, Patotsav, Sri Rama Navami, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, Holi, Gaura Purnima and Gita Jayanti, helping preserve India’s cultural heritage and strengthen interest in traditional festivals among people of all generations. The temple also undertakes various initiatives aimed at the holistic development of society.
Speaking about the significance of Dussehra, Jaganmohan Krishna Das said the festival marks the conclusion of the nine-day Navratri fasting period and commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana as well as Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura. The festival thus symbolises the triumph of good over evil.
“Through these celebrations, we try to instil moral values in society and encourage people to appreciate the rich culture and traditions to which we belong. It is our endeavour to create pleasant memories for our devotees by organising celebrations on a grand scale that they will cherish throughout their lives. We hope these experiences will inspire them to return to the temple and remain connected with God,” he said.
He further emphasised the important role of temples in society according to Vedic culture, stating that temples should not be limited to the worship of the Lord but should also serve as centres for the dissemination of spiritual knowledge and the distribution of spiritual food, or prasadam.
“If all temples take up these responsibilities, our society will be elevated towards its glorious material and spiritual prosperity,” he added.
ISKCON Hare Krishna Mandir, Bhadaj, continues to set an example of how temples can serve both God and humanity through religious celebrations, spiritual education and community-oriented activities.
