Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Feb 02, In a powerful display of determination and compassion, the KD Amdavad Marathon 2025 ,Edition 3 Brings, saw over 5000 runners take to the scenic Sabarmati Riverfront, not just to cross the finish line but to champion a cause that could save countless lives—organ donation.
The event, more than just a test of endurance, aimed to shed light on India’s urgent need for organ donors and encourage people to pledge their support for the life-saving cause.
Organised by KD Hospital, the marathon was flagged off by key members of the hospital’s management team, including Dr Adit Desai – Managing Director, KD Hospital, Dr Anuja Desai – Executive Director, KD Hospital, and Dr Parth Desai, COO, KD Hospital. Guests of Honor Dr. Anil Naik (President Elect, Indian Medical Association), Dr. Mehul Shah, President Indian Medical Association (Gujarat State Branch) & Dr. Dhiren Mehta, President, Ahmedabad Medical Association graced the occasion with their presence.
In 2023, India saw over 1099 organ donors, with Gujarat contributing significantly by ranking fifth with 146 donors. However, the nation’s organ donation rate remains low, at 0.8 per million, compared to 35–40 per million in other countries. The KD Amdavad Marathon sought to bridge this gap, encouraging participants to register as organ donors and inspire change in this pressing healthcare challenge.
The hospital expressed heartfelt gratitude to the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) for their invaluable support in spreading the life-changing message of organ donation.
Dr Adit Desai, Managing Director of KD Hospital, emphasised the marathon’s dual purpose, stating: “The KD Amdavad Marathon is a powerful reminder that every step we take today can pave the way for a healthier tomorrow. Beyond promoting fitness, our goal is to inspire people to become organ donors and offer the gift of life to those in need”.
