Ahmedabad Sep 05, Navjeevan Charitable Trust launches “Navjeevan Haat” project to make 100 mentally challenged youth self-reliant.
Giving details about Navajeevan Haat project, Subhash Apte, Founder Trustee of the organization said Navjeevan Charitable Trust located at Memnagar, in the city provides education, training and rehabilitation to mentally challenged children since last 32 years. At present more than 50 beneficiaries is taking advantage of it. Three years ago, the project “Navajeevan – Haat” was launched by the Institute for the Self-Reliance of Mentally Handicapped Persons, a vocational centre run by the Institute for the Self-Reliance of the Mentally Handicapped, where mentally challenged children are taught to make various handicraft-decoration items and sold by the organization.

Mr. Subhash Apte, Founder Trustee of the organization said that three years ago the mentally challenged beneficiaries were divided into three groups and assigned different tasks. In which one group produces various handicraft-decoration items, while another group packs the manufactured items and the third sells them with the help of group guardians. Compensation is paid to such mentally challenged youths from the profit from the sale of items such as rakhi, pagaluchniya, cover, lamp, candle, incense burner, decovti, aarti thali, keychain, rangoli, floating lamp, wax lamp etc. produced by mentally challenged youth. In this way 35 mentally challenged persons were employed under the “Navajeevan Haat” project, and the production and sales of the organization also increased. In the beginning, the sales of the products produced by mentally challenged youths was around Rs 1 lakh, which today has reached Rs 5 lakhs due to the new efforts made by the organization.
Mr. Subhash Apte, Founder Trustee of the Institute further said that now we are going to give a big shape to the “Navjivan Haat” project by appealing to various charitable organizations/individuals to join. As part of which the entire setup will be set up at a separate location in the city. Where as many as 100 mentally challenged people make and sell various products to become self-sufficient and earn better income.
Navjivan Charitable Trust Founder Director Nilesh Panchal said that more and more disabled people should join us in the “Navjivan Haat” project and take advantage of it and support our cause. Because the organization clearly believes that today’s society may hesitate to employ disabled people as liftmen, office boys, security men, counter boys, but it is sure that they will not hesitate to make them self-reliant by purchasing their manufactured products. Navjeevan Trust will provide the raw materials required to prepare items for the disabled in the “Navjeevan Haat” production center.
Freedom from TV/Mobile Addiction: Arrangements will be made by the organization to take the work home for the differently abled who are doing the production. By which they will stay away from TV mobile addiction and can continue their production even on holidays.
Mr. Nilesh Panchal further said that if the disabled people want to purchase the raw materials themselves for the purpose of continuing their production in the organization and at home, then we will help the organization to get financing from the Gujarat State Handicap Development Company (GHSFDC). The organization will be responsible for the sale of the product made by them. So that mentally retarded people can earn more than jobs by taking advantage of this new center is the main purpose of our organization.
It is hoped by the organization that people will help for this new employment oriented operation.
