Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Mar 29, Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav Inaugurated Two-Days Philately Exhibition ‘Stamp Fiesta-2025’ at IIM Ahmedabad Campus today.
Postal Stamps are carriers of the civilization, culture and heritage of any country. Department of Posts is initiating new steps in the field of stamp collection or philately. The objective is to foster creativity among the youth as well as to make them aware of contemporary topics, events, country’s eminent personalities, biodiversity etc. through these postage stamps. Philately plays a vital role in strengthening the education system. On March 29, Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav, Postmaster General of North Gujarat Region, expressed these thoughts while inaugurating the two-day stamp exhibition ‘Stamp Fiesta-2025’ at the Old Building Campus of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.
The exhibition captivated visitors with stamps depicting great personalities such as Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, Indian freedom movement, rich heritage of Gujarat through Handlooms and Heritage and various aspects of the Ramayana. On this occasion, IIM Ahmedabad students visited the Stamp Fiesta and gained insights into various stamps. Detailed information was provided about Philately Deposit Accounts, My Stamp, Deen Dayal Sparsh Scholarship Scheme, and the Dhai Akhar Letter Writing Competition. Under the My Stamp initiative, people can now have their photographs featured on stamps.
Indian Postal Service Officer Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that postage stamps connect the past with the present. The ongoing development in society can be beautifully seen through the lens of postage stamps. Philately is known as the “King of Hobbies and Hobby of Kings,” where enthusiasts can collect stamps on a wide range of topics. There is a story hidden behind every postage stamp and today’s young generation needs to be connected to this story. Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav further said that Mahatma Gandhi, born on the land of Gujarat, showed the world the path to follow, and today, his principles have become a subject of study and research in the field of management. Maximum stamps in the world have been issued featuring Mahatma Gandhi as personality.
Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that in the changing era of communication, today’s young generation is giving more preference to social media, but the youth should connect with creative hobbies such as philately, this will also develop their general knowledge. In this sequence, India Post is taking an innovative step by setting up Philately Clubs in various schools to foster students’ interest in philately. This initiative will also benefit the education of the students. With the aim of bringing and encouraging stamp collection (philately) in the mainstream of the education system, the Postal Department has also started “Deen Dayal Sparsh Scholarship Scheme” of Rs 6000 / – per annum for children from class 6 to 9.
Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Ahmedabad City Division, Shri Vikas Palwe stated that Department of Posts is opening Philately Clubs in various schools to develop students’ interest and inclination towards stamp collection. Exhibitions like ‘Stamp Fiesta’ aim to introduce youth and students related to management to the various aspects of philately in a festive manner. Students attending the IIM Convocation will also have the opportunity to connect with this initiative.
On this occasion, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Ahmedabad City Division, Shri Vikas Palwe, Dy. Superintendent Shri S.K. Verma, IIM Professor Shri Sanjay Verma, Assistant Superintendent Shri Alkesh Parmar, Shri Hardik Rathod; Shri S.N. Ghori; Philatelist Shri Vijay Navlakha; IIM Postmaster Mrs. Kruti Mehta; and Assistant Manager, IPPB Mrs. Maliah Minto, along with many others were present.
