~Reliance Foundation begins comprehensive flood relief efforts in Assam’s Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, targeting 10,000 affected families with food, healthcare, shelter, and livestock support.
Mumbai / Guwahati, July 28 (VNI): Reliance Foundation has launched a comprehensive multi-sectoral relief response to support communities affected by the devastating floods in Upper Assam. In coordination with government authorities, the Foundation aims to assist at least 10,000 flood-affected families in the worst-hit districts of Sivasagar and Charaideo.
The floods, triggered by intense rainfall and flash flooding, have caused widespread destruction, resulting in loss of life, damage to homes and infrastructure, disruption of livelihoods, and increased public health risks. More than 5 lakh people have been impacted across the two districts, with significant losses to livestock, essential services, and public infrastructure.
Following rapid on-ground assessments conducted by its disaster management professionals in consultation with district authorities, Reliance Foundation has initiated relief measures including public health risk management, food and nutrition support, emergency shelter assistance, and livestock protection. Community Health Centres are being cleaned and restored to resume healthcare services, while safe drinking water, hygiene kits, and sanitation supplies are being distributed to affected families.
The Foundation has also set up community kitchens to provide freshly cooked meals to families without access to food supplies, alongside distributing dry ration kits. Emergency shelter kits containing tarpaulins, groundsheets, mosquito nets, ropes, and bedding are being provided to displaced families.
Additionally, a 39-member team from Vantara has been deployed to provide veterinary care and livestock protection. Reliance Foundation will support approximately 4,000 flood-affected livestock with animal feed and veterinary services. The Foundation said it is working closely with district administrations, government departments, community institutions, and partner organisations to ensure timely and effective relief reaches those in greatest need.
