~Reliance Industries and Rolls-Royce announce strategic intent to develop an indigenous combat engine for India’s AMCA programme and explore an Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex.
London / Mumbai, Maharashtra, Aug 14 (VNI): Reliance Industries Limited and Rolls-Royce today announced their strategic intent to partner and offer capabilities for the design, development, manufacturing and delivery of a sovereign indigenous combat engine for India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.
As part of the proposed partnership, the companies will explore the formation of a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India, envisioned as a centre of excellence for power and propulsion technology. The initiative will bring together Rolls-Royce’s advanced propulsion expertise and Reliance’s technology, manufacturing, scale and execution capabilities.
According to the companies, the partnership aims to establish an end-to-end Indian capability covering the design, development, manufacturing, testing, production and through-life support of aero engines. The initiative is intended to support India’s strategic autonomy and the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat in critical defence technologies.
Anant Ambani, Executive Director, Reliance Industries Limited, said India’s strategic autonomy requires sovereign capability in critical technologies. He said the proposed partnership with Rolls-Royce would combine its advanced propulsion expertise with Reliance’s technology, manufacturing and execution capabilities to build an indigenous aero-engine ecosystem in India and make the country globally competitive in advanced propulsion technologies.
Tufan Erginbilgiç, CEO, Rolls-Royce plc, said the company welcomed the opportunity to work with Reliance Industries and combine its heritage in advanced engineering and engine expertise with Reliance’s industrial capabilities in India. He described the initiative as a major milestone towards building a robust and self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in the country.
The proposed Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex could also create opportunities for wider collaboration across defence, civil aerospace, and emerging power and propulsion systems, supporting India’s ambition to develop advanced indigenous propulsion capabilities.
