Ahmedabad, Gujarat Jan 24, GUJARAT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & INDUSTRY (GCCI)’s Chemical Committee, Environment Taskforce and MSME committee jointly with Central Ground Water Authorty, WCR, Ahmedabad organized a workshop on “CGWA Guidelines and BhuNeer App” to create awareness and promote better management of groundwater resources.
Gaurang Bhagat, Secretary, GCCI, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the critical importance of groundwater and the need for collective efforts to conserve this vital resource. He emphasized GCCI’s commitment to sustainable development, highlighting the importance of balancing economic growth with the preservation of natural resources. He commended the “Bhu-Neer Portal” as a significant step toward efficient groundwater management and urged collective efforts to address global groundwater challenges. He also appreciated the joint efforts of GCCI’s Chemical, MSME, and Environment Committees in organizing the event, which aimed to provide valuable insights into sustainable water conservation practices.
Dr. Ratikanta Nayak, Regional Director, CGWB WCR, Ahmedabad, in his address outlined the objectives of the workshop. He explained the necessity of regulations and authorities to manage groundwater, shedding light on the water cycle and the critical role of groundwater. He stressed that natural recharge alone is insufficient to sustain the growing demand and emphasized the need for artificial recharge. He further elaborated on the components of groundwater recharge and geological formations.
Thakur Brahmanand Singh, Member Secretary, CGWA, New Delhi, provided an overview of the CGWA and its initiatives. He discussed the impact of climate change on rainfall patterns and urged industries and stakeholders to prevent water wastage due to flowing water and adopt water storage measures. He briefly introduced the upgraded BhuNeer App, highlighting its advantages over the earlier version, NOCAP. He also emphasized the importance of using treated water in industries, encouraging the establishment of more STPs and CETPs. He also advocated for dual pipeline systems and urged industries to carefully adhere to the conditions of their NOCs.
Yogesh Parikh, Chairman, Chemical Committee, GCCI, delivered the theme address, highlighting the significance of the workshop and the need for active participation in groundwater conservation.
Shri Ramesh Jena, Scientist C, CGWB WCR, Ahmedabad, gave an informative presentation and in-depth understanding of the CGWA Guidelines, exclusively for obtaining NOCs, Guidelines for Piezometers, Infrastructure Projects, Abstraction of Saline Ground water.
T.B.N. Singh, Member Secretary, CGWA elaborated on the advantages of BhuNeer App over its predecessor, NOCAP.
Ms. Iti Gupta, Scientist D, CGWA, provided an introduction to the BhuNeer App and demonstrated its features and functionalities, making the session interactive and practical.
Shri Ankit Patel, Chairman, Environment Taskforce, GCCI concluded the workshop with a Vote of Thanks. He expressed gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants and stakeholders for their active engagement in the event.
This workshop was an essential step in promoting awareness about groundwater conservation and the use of advanced tools like the BhuNeer App for sustainable water management practices.
