Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Sep 16 (VNI): Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Government of India, Manoj Joshi visited Amneal Pharmaceuticals’ corporate office in Ahmedabad and met company leaders to discuss the company’s growth, investments, product pipeline and expanding capabilities.
The discussions covered Amneal’s contribution to pharmaceutical manufacturing and innovation in India, along with its expanded biosimilars capabilities following the acquisition of Kashiv BioSciences. The company highlighted its growing presence across complex generics, injectables, peptides and APIs, supported by investments in advanced manufacturing and R&D.
Amneal also shared an overview of its global manufacturing expertise, innovation capabilities, partnerships and role in supporting pharmaceutical supply chains. The acquisition of Kashiv BioSciences has strengthened Amneal’s biosimilars capabilities by bringing together research, development, manufacturing and commercialisation expertise, while expanding its biosimilars pipeline.
The interaction also focused on India’s opportunities to further strengthen pharmaceutical manufacturing and advance biopharmaceutical innovation through greater investment in R&D, innovation capital, advanced infrastructure, industry-academia collaboration and regulatory science. These priorities are reflected in the Government’s proposed Biopharma SHAKTI programme, with an outlay of ₹10,000 crore over five years to strengthen India’s biopharmaceutical ecosystem.
Dr. Parva Purohit, Senior Vice President and Head R&D, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, said India has a strong foundation in pharmaceutical manufacturing and an opportunity to add greater depth in biopharmaceutical innovation. Rahul Maitra, Senior VP, Human Resources, Amneal, said the pharmaceutical industry is growing rapidly in R&D and manufacturing and stressed the importance of industry-academia-government collaboration for developing a trained and industry-ready workforce. The visit reinforced the importance of continued government-industry collaboration to strengthen India’s biopharmaceutical capabilities, advance innovation and support investment in advanced manufacturing.
