~IndiGo and Adani Airports plan to launch international flights from Navi Mumbai Airport in February 2027, expanding connectivity to 12 destinations.
Mumbai, Maharashtra, Oct 25 (VNI): IndiGo and Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL) have announced that they are in the final stages of operationalising a plan to commence IndiGo’s international flight operations from Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in February 2027, followed by a phased expansion. The move will strengthen their partnership and enhance the dual-airport system serving the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
According to AAHL, IndiGo will progressively transfer 12 daily international departures from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) to NMIA. These services will cover Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta. An additional daily service to Kathmandu will also be introduced, taking IndiGo’s international network at NMIA to 12 destinations between February and July 2027. The airline will also transition the necessary domestic connectivity to NMIA to support these international services and facilitate seamless onward connections for passengers.
AAHL and IndiGo are working together to develop the required infrastructure at NMIA to ensure smooth and efficient transfers between domestic and international flights. The expansion marks another step in IndiGo’s strategy to establish NMIA as a long-term international hub. At CSMIA, the transition will create additional capacity for IndiGo to launch new international services across Asia, Africa and Europe in 2027, supported by its expanding fleet of A320/A321 aircraft and A321XLRs.
The capacity transition will also support the planned redevelopment of CSMIA Terminal 1 (T1) by 2030. IndiGo and AAHL will coordinate any further adjustments required to IndiGo’s operations at T1, with the aim of accommodating them at CSMIA Terminal 2 (T2). The phased transition is designed to ensure a transparent, equitable and proportionate rebalancing of capacity across Mumbai’s two airports, taking into account the presence of individual airlines at CSMIA. This approach is expected to minimise operational disruptions and provide greater planning certainty for airlines and passengers as NMIA expands and CSMIA advances its redevelopment plans.
IndiGo will announce the final dates for transferring services to NMIA and introducing new services at CSMIA once project coordination is completed and the relevant operational approvals are secured. The phased expansion is expected to strengthen international connectivity from Navi Mumbai while supporting further international growth at CSMIA, offering passengers across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region improved access to a wider range of domestic and international destinations through the twin-airport system.
