~Gujarat will establish Data & AI Labs in 20 ITIs and 17 Polytechnics under the IndiaAI Mission. The state also receives two AI Centres of Excellence and 23 IndiaAI Fellowships.
New Delhi, Aug 03 (VNI): Gujarat has been identified for the establishment of Data & AI Labs in 37 technical institutes, including 20 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and 17 Polytechnics, under the IndiaAI Mission. The initiative aims to strengthen AI education and skill development by providing training in artificial intelligence, data annotation, data curation and applied data science.
Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology Jitin Prasada shared the information in the Rajya Sabha while responding to AI-related questions raised by Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani. He said that under the IndiaAI FutureSkills pillar, these laboratories will help build a skilled AI workforce and prepare students for emerging technology-driven careers.
The Minister also informed the House that Gujarat has been allocated two Artificial Intelligence Centres of Excellence (AI-CoEs) under the IndiaAI Startup Financing pillar. These centres will strengthen the state’s AI innovation ecosystem by supporting startups, MSMEs and academic institutions. Additionally, Gujarat has received 23 IndiaAI Fellowships, including 4 undergraduate, 12 postgraduate and 7 PhD fellowships, to promote AI research and talent development.
Under the IndiaAI Compute pillar, Gujarat-based entities, including Gujarat Informatics Limited (GIL) and Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited (AMUL), have been granted subsidised access to high-performance GPU computing at an average cost of around ₹65 per GPU-hour. The Government noted that the IndiaAI Mission, approved on March 7, 2024, has a total outlay of ₹10,371.92 crore over five years and is being implemented through seven strategic pillars to accelerate India’s AI ecosystem.
