~Gujarat received ₹1,226.21 crore under CAMPA over the last five years, along with funds under MISHTI, Nagar Van Yojana and climate adaptation projects, the Centre informed the Rajya Sabha.
New Delhi, July 30 (VNI): Gujarat has received ₹1,226.21 crore under the National Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (National CAMPA) during the last five years. The state also received ₹67.30 crore under the Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats and Tangible Incomes (MISHTI) and ₹7.43 crore under the Nagar Van Yojana, the Centre informed the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh, in a written reply to a question raised by Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani, said that 1,33,666 hectares of degraded forest land have been restored in Gujarat over the past five years. Restoration activities included assisted natural regeneration, compensatory afforestation, artificial regeneration, soil and moisture conservation measures, and plantation of suitable indigenous species under programmes such as the Green India Mission (GIM) and National CAMPA.
The minister further informed that under the National Adaptation Fund for Climate Change (NAFCC), a project titled “Climate Change Adaptation for Natural Resource Dependent Communities in Kachchh, Gujarat: Strengthening Resilience through Water & Livelihood Security and Ecosystem Restoration” was sanctioned with an outlay of ₹21.36 crore. Additionally, ₹12 lakh was provided to Gujarat for revising its State Action Plan on Climate Change, while the Department of Science and Technology (DST) also extended financial support to the State Climate Change Cells during the last five years.
According to the written reply, the DST’s national study titled “Climate Vulnerability Assessment for Adaptation Planning in India using a Common Framework” assessed the relative climate vulnerability of states and districts across the country. The assessment categorised Gujarat as ‘moderately vulnerable’ and highlighted ongoing efforts by the State Climate Change Cells in conducting vulnerability assessments, capacity building, public awareness campaigns, and institutional strengthening to improve climate resilience.
