~IIT Gandhinagar celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with flag hoisting, a call for innovation and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, IPAS launch, and awards recognising faculty, staff and student achievements.
Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Aug 16 (VNI): The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day on August 15 with the participation of students, faculty, staff and members of the Institute community.
The celebration began with the assembly of the Institute community, followed by the rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’, hoisting of the national flag and the National Anthem. The programme reflected on India’s journey since Independence and recognised contributions in research, academics and institutional service.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Gandhinagar, highlighted the responsibilities of educational and research institutions in advancing science, technology and innovation. He said that institutions like IITGN have an important role in supporting India’s journey towards becoming a global leader in science and technology. He emphasised areas including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, sustainable energy and public health, while stressing the importance of contributing to the vision of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Prof Moona also highlighted the role of the younger generation in shaping India’s future and urged students to uphold the values of service, integrity and responsibility while contributing to a stronger, more prosperous and self-reliant nation.
A key highlight of the programme was the launch of the Institute Process Automation System (IPAS), an initiative aimed at making institutional processes more efficient, streamlined and user-friendly. Prof Nithin V George, Acting Registrar, IITGN, said the system features a personalised dashboard integrating pending approvals, recent activities and the calendar, with further enhancements planned in subsequent phases.
The celebration also recognised the achievements and dedicated service of members of the IITGN community. Long Service Awards were presented to faculty and staff members for their contributions to the Institute. The Bhalodia-Khetan Summer Research Excellence Awards recognised outstanding summer research by Saumya Kansara in Humanities and Social Sciences, Vaishali Chauhan in Science, and Rathin Mahesh Ghivari in Engineering.
The UG Research Showcase – Best Poster Awards recognised student research by Om Gupta from Chemical Engineering; Suhani from Computer Science and Engineering; and Shah Nihar Dharmesh, Prachand Aditya Prashant and Pavitr Chandwani from Electrical Engineering. Dean’s List Awards were also presented to students for their academic performance.
The programme concluded with refreshments and an informal gathering of the IITGN community. The celebration brought together students, faculty and staff to mark Independence Day and acknowledge their contributions to research, education and the continued development of IIT Gandhinagar.
