~Saint-Gobain and CEPT University have partnered to establish a climate-resilient Tech Commons Centre in Ahmedabad to promote sustainable building solutions, energy efficiency, research and innovation in India.
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, July 23 (VNI): Saint-Gobain and CEPT University have entered into a strategic partnership to establish a climate-resilient Tech Commons Centre (TCC) and strengthen research collaboration on sustainability, energy efficiency and wellbeing in the built environment.
The initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of sustainable building solutions and bridge the gap between academia and industry.
The collaboration combines Saint-Gobain’s expertise in light and sustainable construction with CEPT University’s leadership in education and research. The Tech Commons Centre will serve as a first-of-its-kind platform for building science, research, prototyping, skill development and industry-led knowledge exchange in architecture, design, construction and urban development. Through hands-on learning and real-world problem solving, the partnership seeks to prepare future professionals for India’s sustainable infrastructure needs.
Speaking on the occasion, Sreedhar N., Senior Vice-President and CEO, Asia Pacific and India Region, Saint-Gobain, said the company’s sustainable building solutions can create climate-resilient spaces that consume up to 40 per cent less energy, reduce embodied carbon, improve circularity, enhance durability and provide healthier, more comfortable living environments. He said the collaboration with CEPT University would offer architecture students a living laboratory for sustainable construction while creating awareness among the next generation of professionals who will shape India’s built environment.
Prof. Barjor Mehta, President of CEPT University, said universities play a vital role in creating knowledge that addresses real-world challenges. He noted that the Tech Commons Centre will feature four specialised hubs, Building Science and Climate Resilience, Urban Intelligence and Digital Twins, Computational Design and Visualisation, and Communications and Mediabringing academic research closer to professional practice and advancing sustainable development.
The partners said that as India progresses towards the vision of Viksit Bharat, buildings must go beyond providing shelter by reducing energy consumption, lowering carbon emissions and strengthening energy security. Saint-Gobain’s Made-in-India solutions improve thermal comfort, natural daylighting, acoustics, indoor air quality and fire safety while helping reduce operating costs.
