~India’s No. 1 para table tennis player Nurjahan Jamani receives Gujarat’s prestigious Sardar Patel Sports Award for sporting excellence and resilience.
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Aug 13 (VNI): India’s top-ranked para table tennis player Nurjahan Noorali Jamani has been honoured with the prestigious Sardar Patel Sports Award by the Government of Gujarat, adding another major recognition to the career of the Adani Sportsline ‘Garv Hai’ athlete.
Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi conferred the award at a ceremony in Gandhinagar. Instituted by the Sports, Youth and Cultural Activities Department, Government of Gujarat, the Sardar Patel Sports Award is among the state’s highest sporting honours and recognises athletes for resilience, determination and sporting excellence.
Diagnosed with polio at the age of five, Nurjahan competed in para table tennis between 2007 and 2010 before taking a break from the sport for more than a decade. She returned to competitive table tennis in 2022 and has since made a remarkable comeback, successfully defending her title at the UTT Para Senior National Championship 2025-26 in Indore. Her performances have taken her to India No. 1 and World No. 27 in her category.
Based in Ahmedabad, Nurjahan works as a Junior Officer at Adani Airport Holdings Limited. Through Adani Sportsline’s ‘Garv Hai’ initiative, she receives support including tournament planning, coaching guidance, performance monitoring and assistance for international competitions, helping her compete consistently at the highest level.
Nurjahan said the recognition from the Gujarat government was special and would motivate her to aim higher while representing India with pride. Adani Sportsline Chief Business Officer Sanjay Adesara congratulated her, saying her journey reflects the determination and resilience that define champions.
The award comes as Nurjahan prepares to pursue qualification for the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, scheduled from October 18 to 24, where she aims to further contribute to India’s growing success in para sports.
