~APSEZ has won the Paradip Port concession to develop and operate two dry bulk berths, adding 18 MMT capacity and taking its portfolio to 671 MMT.
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Sep 09 (VNI): Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), India’s largest and one of the world’s fastest-growing integrated transport operators, has emerged as the highest bidder and received the Letter of Award (LoA) for the development and operation of two dry bulk berths at Paradip Port in Odisha. The project will add 18 Million Metric Tonnes (MMT) of new capacity, taking APSEZ’s total portfolio to 671 MMT per annum and supporting its target of achieving 1 billion tonnes of cargo throughput by 2030.
The project will be developed and operated under a 30-year concession through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. APSEZ will develop the CQ-I and CQ-II berths with state-of-the-art mechanised cargo handling systems, deep-draft berths and large-scale storage infrastructure.
Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO, APSEZ, said the Paradip concession will strengthen the company’s presence on India’s East Coast and expand access to one of the country’s key industrial and mineral-rich hinterlands. With Paradip, APSEZ’s network will grow to 16 ports and terminals across India’s 11,000-km coastline, strengthening its integrated port, logistics and marine solutions.
Located in a mineral-rich hinterland and surrounded by major steel plants, Paradip is India’s second-largest major port and an important gateway for bulk cargo. The new terminal will enhance APSEZ’s ability to handle growing volumes of coal, limestone and other dry bulk commodities while expanding its reach across key industrial and manufacturing clusters in eastern and central India.
The capacity addition comes amid rising cargo demand and high utilisation across ports on India’s East Coast. Supported by expansion in the steel sector and the government’s push for domestic coal, the project is expected to help ease regional capacity constraints and support industrial growth.
