~Union Home Minister Amit Shah performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the world’s largest curd manufacturing plant under the Amul Bengal Dairy Project in Kolkata. The facility will process 10 lakh litres of milk daily and benefit 1.20 lakh dairy farmers.
Kolkata, West Bengal, July 19 (VNI): Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Sunday performed the Bhoomi Pujan for the world’s largest curd manufacturing plant under the Amul Bengal Dairy Project at the New Town Convention Centre in Kolkata. The project marks a major step towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” and “White Revolution 2.0”.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said the plant will process 10 lakh litres of milk per day and directly benefit around 1.20 lakh milk-producing livestock rearers across West Bengal. He highlighted the strength of the cooperative model, stating that 87 paise of every rupee spent by an Amul consumer reaches livestock rearers directly, ensuring better incomes for farmers. He added that Bengal’s iconic Mishti Doi would now reach households across the country, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Gujarat to Bengal.
Shah said the West Bengal Government’s decision to provide 30 acres of land free of cost had made the project possible. He also announced that the Government of India would establish a Sex-Sorted Semen facility in the state to improve cattle breeds and increase milk productivity. More than 70 farmer welfare schemes of the Ministry of Cooperation will be extended to farmers in Bengal within the next six months.
Highlighting Bengal’s historical contribution to India, Shah said the state has inspired the nation in education, culture, spirituality and the freedom movement. He paid tribute to personalities including Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Paramahansa, Maharshi Aurobindo, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Khudiram Bose, adding that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the vision of a prosperous and culturally vibrant “Sonar Bangla” is being transformed into reality.
He further announced that under the “Sarathi” initiative, Bengal’s taxis will be linked with the Bharat Taxi platform through an MoU, enabling drivers to become stakeholders in both their vehicles and the platform. Shah expressed confidence that with Bengal’s abundant water resources and fertile land, every livestock-rearing household would have at least two high-yielding animals producing 25 percent more milk over the next 15 years.
