~Rajiv Ranjan Singh launched four farmer-centric dairy initiatives at NDDB Anand, focusing on milk quality, collection, innovation, digitalisation and cooperative sector growth.
Anand, Gujarat, Sep 18 (VNI): Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Panchayati Raj Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh on Friday launched four new farmer-centric initiatives at the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), Anand, aimed at strengthening the dairy cooperative sector. The initiatives were launched in the presence of Prof S P Singh Baghel, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Panchayati Raj.
The four initiatives include Mother Dairy’s 10-gram Butter Chiplets, NDDB-developed Milk Adulteration Detection Kits, a lithium-ion battery-operated 300-litre Mobile Milk Collection & Cooling System with IoT monitoring, and DARPAN, an integrated Document Management System being implemented at NDDB. The initiatives have been developed to make dairy operations safer, more efficient, transparent and modern while supporting farmers and strengthening the cooperative movement.
The Milk Adulteration Detection Kits are manufactured by NDDB’s wholly-owned subsidiary NDDB CALF Ltd, while the Mobile Milk Collection & Cooling System has been designed by NDDB and manufactured by its wholly-owned subsidiary IDMC Limited. The mobile system enables direct milk collection in rural areas, including weighing, quality testing and receipt generation, with IoT-based monitoring facilities.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajiv Ranjan Singh appreciated NDDB’s contribution to the dairy sector and noted that India is now the world’s largest milk producer. He highlighted the need to increase the share of the organised dairy market while ensuring the quantity and quality of milk and milk products. He particularly emphasised large-scale implementation and commercialisation of the Butter Chiplets, Milk Adulteration Detection Kits and Mobile Milk Collection & Cooling System. He also appreciated NDDB’s digitalisation initiative, DARPAN.
Prof S P Singh Baghel said that the separation of the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying from the Ministry of Agriculture and its establishment as an independent entity helped create a pathway towards the goal of doubling farmers’ income. He recalled that the White Revolution was launched from Anand and highlighted India’s leading position in global milk production and its per capita milk consumption being higher than the global average. He also appreciated NDDB’s technologies including ET, IVF and sex-sorted semen, and stressed strengthening existing dairy cooperative societies and establishing new ones to help transform the unorganised dairy sector into an organised one.
NDDB Chairman Dr Meenesh Shah said the event reflected NDDB’s commitment to supporting farmers and the cooperative movement. He said NDDB is prioritising the establishment of new dairy cooperatives and strengthening existing ones through White Revolution 2.0 in partnership with states and milk unions. NDDB is also working with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying to promote indigenous technologies such as artificial insemination, sex-sorted semen, embryo transfer, IVF and genomic selection. He added that sustainable dairy production, including household biogas, centralised energy solutions and Bio-CNG, can contribute to greater energy self-reliance and improved farmers’ income.
