~UNM Foundation-Torrent and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation inaugurated a ₹10 crore Heritage Park on Sabarmati Riverfront showcasing Ahmedabad’s history through five permanent thematic installations.
Ahmedabad, Gujarat, July 12 (VNI): UNM Foundation–Torrent, in partnership with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), has unveiled a newly developed Heritage Park on the eastern bank of the Sabarmati Riverfront, creating a unique public space that celebrates Ahmedabad’s rich cultural, historical, and architectural legacy through immersive installations.
The park was virtually inaugurated by Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, who is also the Member of Parliament from Gandhinagar. Developed under UNM Foundation’s Pratiti initiative, the Heritage Park stretches between Swami Vivekananda Bridge and Nehru Bridge with the historic Bhadra Fort as its backdrop. Spread across 20,000 square metres in Jamalpur Ward, the project has been completed at a cost of over ₹10 crore and is the 12th public park developed and maintained by the Foundation in collaboration with AMC.
Designed as a living museum of Ahmedabad’s evolution, the Heritage Park features five permanent thematic installations. These include the Circus Tent Circle, recalling the days when circus tents occupied the dry Sabarmati riverbed during school vacations; the Dynasties of Ahmedabad Circle, depicting the city’s rulers from the Bhil tribes and Chalukyas to the Sultanates, Mughals, Marathas, British, and post-Independence India; the City Evolution Circle, highlighting the city’s geographical and cultural transformation; the Royal Axis Circle, aligned with Jama Masjid, Teen Darwaza, and Bhadra Fort built by Sultan Ahmed Shah-I in 1411; and the Mata Ni Pachhedi Circle, honouring Gujarat’s 400-year-old folk art tradition and the communities once living along the Sabarmati River.
UNM Foundation acknowledged the support of the Government of Gujarat and AMC in restoring and expanding urban green spaces across Ahmedabad. Under the Pratiti initiative, the Foundation now develops and maintains 12 public parks covering more than 1.5 lakh square metres—over 15 percent of the city’s total green area—while four additional parks spanning over 40,000 square metres are currently under development. Beyond urban ecology, the Foundation continues to work in healthcare, education, art, culture, and environmental conservation, positively impacting more than 2.5 crore people across Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and the Union Territory of Daman.
